Cooper and I just returned from a quick getaway to Leucadia to escape the desert heat. One of the things I love about the area is the variety of local eateries along historic Highway 101. Another plus is the majority of restaurants in Leucadia are dog friendly. Read on to find out more about three of my favorites I think you should try, all with Medieterraen influences.
1. Le Papagayo is One of the Restaurants in Leucadia I Love
Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, Le Papagayo is a fusion of Medieterraen and Latin flavors. Think Miso Chilean Seabass with Crab Fried Rice and Habanero Cauliflower or Roasted Hawaiian Kalua Pork with Coconut Rice and Fried Plantains. With live music daily, the atmosphere is fun and colorful. Slide up to the bar for a tasty craft cocktail or enjoy dinner on their large outdoor patio. Before you leave, take a moment to check out the local artwork adorning the walls.
This place is busy, so reservations are definitely recommended. The inside/outside bar is first come, first serve. Happy Hour is offered daily from 3:30pm to 5:30pm and all night on Tuesdays. Dogs are allowed on the patio and outside bar.

2. Valentina is Another Restaurant in Leucadia I Love
Named after the owner’s daughter, Valentina is an upscale bistro and wine bar. Featuring an eclectic mix of seasonal plates, find delectable dishes such as Spanish Sashimi, Steak Tartare and Fries and Wiener Schnitzel on the menu. An extensive wine list with over 120 bottles makes it easy to find the right varietal to accompany your meal. The vibe is hip, black and white florals with plenty of outdoor seating.
Valentina is open everyday for lunch and dinner. Brunch is served on weekends. Reservations are suggested but optional. Well-behaved dogs are welcome.

3. Solterra Winery and Kitchen is the Third Restaurant I Love
Solterra Winery and Kitchen offers award-winning wines with grapes sourced locally and from areas in California and Mexico. Their bold-flavored tapas, salads and entrees pair perfectly with the vino. Sip on one of their robust reds like the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon while noshing on their Crispy Cauliflower or their scrumptious Short Rib. Visit in the afternoons for a tasting. Try your hand at a wine blending event or book an appointment for a winery tour. Listen to live music on the weekends at their outside fire pit with friends. It is always a good time at Solterra.
Solterra Winery and Kitchen is open Wednesday through Sundays. Well-behaved dogs are permitted on the patio. Reservations are available.
