The month of May in the desert usually brings higher temperatures as we move closer to summer. It also brings free things to do in and around the Coachella Valley. Read on to find out more, and fingers crossed we don’t hit the triple degree mark too soon!
One of Cooper’s Favorite Free Things to Do in May
Concerts in the Park is back at the Palm Desert Civic Park every Thursday in May. Cooper loves heading to the park for an evening of free entertainment. He especially likes the doggie treats I stuff in our picnic basket. If you don’t have time to pack a meal, food trucks are on site to order from. Make sure to bring a blanket or chair and a jacket as it can be cool in the evenings. Concerts begin at 7:00pm.

This Saturday, May 4, 2024, Palm Desert residents get into the Palm Springs Air Museum for FREE! Show your driver’s license or a utility bill with your Palm Desert address for free admission all day.
Meet the Mayor of Palm Desert and enjoy some FREE ice cream at the Palm Desert Civic Park. This informative meet and greet takes place on Sunday, May 19, 2024, at 5:30pm. Get those questions ready.

Catch a Free Movie Under the Stars
Free movies on Friday nights return to Sunnylands starting May 3, 2024 with Barbie. The theme for this month’s movies centers on imaginative set designs. La La Land is scheduled for May 10, 2024, and Chicago on May 17, 2024. Feel free to bring your own food and drinks in a small cooler and a blanket or chair. There are no concessions provided at the venue. Gates open at 6:00pm and the movies start at 7:30pm. Coop will have to sit this one out as pets are not permitted.
Immense Yourself in Art in Idyllwild
Escape the rising temperatures in the valley with a trip to Idyllwild on Saturday, May 11, 2024, for Community Day at the Idyllwild Arts Campus. Enjoy performances, exhibitions and lectures by students and instructors in dance, creative writing, fashion and dramatic arts. Take in a production of Cabaret in the afternoon. The event begins at 11:30am and ends at 6:00pm. Lunch will be available for purchase.
