If you’re dreaming of vineyard views, great wine, and a weekend where your dog is just as welcome as you are, dog-friendly Temecula is calling. I recently spent a couple of days exploring this charming Southern California wine region, and it was the perfect mix of relaxation, exploration, and, of course, excellent wine—all with my pup by my side.

Home Base: A Stylish Ranch Retreat in a Dog-Friendly Temecula Oak Grove
We stayed at a picturesque Airbnb nestled in an oak grove that felt like a hidden gem. The property is filled with character—complete with horseshoes, multiple outdoor seating areas to unwind in, and a façade straight out of Old Town Temecula (seriously, it’s Instagram-worthy). Inside, the ranch-themed décor was absolutely adorable. The hosts went above and beyond, stocking a full coffee and tea bar, bottled water, hot chocolate with marshmallows, snacks, candy, and popcorn. It felt more like a boutique inn than a typical vacation rental, and it was the perfect cozy spot to unwind after a day of tastings.
Friday Night: Seafood with a View at Bluewater Grill
We kicked off the trip with dinner at Bluewater Grill, where I faced the delightful challenge of not knowing what to order (everything looked amazing). I finally landed on the Ponzo Sashimi Sea Scallops—fresh, delicate, and beautifully plated—and the Red Chimichurri Mahi, which was perfectly cooked and full of flavor. Dining al fresco with my pup at my feet and a glass of Temecula wine in hand was the perfect way to start the weekend.

Saturday: Sipping & Snacking Through Dog-Friendly Temecula Wineries
First stop: Cougar Winery. This place is effortlessly fun, laid-back, and incredibly dog-friendly—they even have their own K9 Wine Club! I enjoyed a tasting, nibbled on a smoked salmon platter from their deli (so good), and left with a bottle of Barbera. Bonus: the friendly staff genuinely love dogs and didn’t blink when mine made himself at home on their patio.
Next up was Wien’s Cellars for a Private Reserve Tasting. This was a more intimate and refined experience, and their 2021 Pinot Noir was the standout. Naturally, a bottle came home with me.
For dinner, I headed to Oak Mountain Winery. While the panoramic views were stunning—especially at golden hour—the food and service didn’t quite match the setting. I’d suggest stopping here for a glass and some photos, but there are better dining options in the area.
Sunday: Brunch, Bikes & Bold Reds at Doffo Winery
Sunday brunch was at Doffo Winery, and it ended the trip on a high note. The food was absolutely delicious, and the atmosphere was casual yet elevated. I opted for a red tasting flight (which included some bold, flavorful pours) and couldn’t resist taking home two bottles of Malbec and a jar of their homemade chimichurri—which I’m already imagining over a baked salmon dish. Doffo also features a unique collection of vintage motorcycles, which added an unexpected and fun twist to the experience.

Final Thoughts
Temecula surprised me with how welcoming, beautiful, and well-rounded it is—especially for traveling with a dog. Every spot I visited offered dog-friendly patios, scenic views, and warm hospitality. Whether you’re sipping wine or just soaking in the sun, dog-friendly Temecula is a perfect weekend escape for both you and your pup.
