We all love free especially as inflation puts a squeeze on our wallets. Read on for a list of free things to do in the desert sure to get you out of the house.

Palm Desert Golf Cart Parade

The Palm Desert Golf Cart Parade is an annual tradition on El Paseo. The festivities kick off at 12:00pm on October 30. This year’s theme is Masquerade, and the Grand Marshall is NFL legend Tom Flores. Expect to see colorfully decorated golf carts, bands and more. Get there early for parking and to find a good spot on the parade route.

The Happy Tails Dog Adventure

The Friends of the Desert Mountains provide many free things to do in the desert. Make sure to check out the calendar on their website. On Wednesday, November 2, take your hound hiking at their Happy Tails Dog Adventure in the La Quinta Cove. This easy, 2-mile hike is good exercise for you and your pup. Learn all about the cove and find which trails are dog friendly. Registration is required by noon on November 1. This is a wonderful way to meet other dog lovers, discover nature and have fun.

Boozehounds Bow Wow Ball in Palm Springs

Boozehounds is hosting their first ever Bow Wow Ball on Thursday, November 3, from 4:00pm to 6:00pm. Bring your pups in their finest attire to enter a contest with prizes. Categories are: Butch Boy, Femme Fatale, Big Baby Realness, Runway Walk and Best Extravaganza Spectator. Cocktails and bites are available for purchase at happy hour prices. This awesome event is in participation with Palm Springs Animal Shelter, the Humane Society of the Desert (so close to my heart), Animal Samaritans and the Bianca Rae Foundation. Donations to these worthwhile organizations are greatly appreciated. While attending the event is free, you must register at this link. Boozehounds is located at 2080 North Palm Canyon Drive, Palm Springs.

A Concert in the Park is One of Many Free Things to Do in the Desert

Concerts in the Park at SilverRock Park in La Quinta are back in November with Fake Matthews, a Dave Matthews tribute band. Bring your low-back chairs and blankets and come rock out to the music on Saturday, November 19 from 5:30pm to 8:00pm. Pack a picnic or purchase food from one of the available food trucks. Alcohol is prohibited. This event is family and dog friendly.

Free Entrance Days to the National Parks

Several times throughout the year, the National Park Service offers free entrance to our national parks. This includes nearby Joshua Tree. The next free day is Veteran’s Day on November 11. Passes are normally $30 per private vehicle, so this is an opportunity to save a little cash. Explore a diverse variety of plants and animals and the majestic monument. Yoga With a Ranger Saturday

Sponsored by the BLM in participation with Friends of the Desert Mountains is Yoga with a Ranger Saturday. Happening on November 12 from 9:00am to 10:00am at the Santa Rosa & San Jacinto Mountains National Monument Visitor Center. Enjoy a yoga flow suitable for all levels in the great outdoors. Bring your own yoga mat or towel, water and sunscreen. You must register beforehand as the class is limited to 15 participants. Registration begins October 29.

Desert Theatricals Presents Aladdin, Jr.

The whole family will love Disney’s Aladdin, Jr. presented by Desert Theatricals. On November 19 and 20, the Rancho Mirage Amphitheatre will become an enchanted land where genies appear out of magic lamps to grant wishes. Tickets are free with a limit of 4 per guest. No need to bring you own chair as they are provided. No outside drinks or food are allowed, but concessions are available for sale. Register for your complimentary tickets here and take an adventure with Aladdin and his friends.
